Every summer month has something special to recommend it: late May and early June may still have snow on the ground and fewer leaves on the trees. This makes spotting wildlife (with their Spring newborns) easier. Late June and July feature stupendous wildflowers (including our famous fireweed) and, generally, warmer temperatures. This time period also offers the opportunity to experience Alaska's midnight sun.

The Alaska cruise season begins in May and ends in September. Any earlier or any later and you'll experience shorter, colder and wetter conditions. Anytime between May and September is a good time to go to Alaska, but there are better times in the season to travel if you have a specific interest or motivation. For example, if you're interested in saving money, then the shoulder seasons of May and September are the best times to go.

Any summer month is good for halibut (winter would work too, if the fishermen didn't mind freezing their fingers). The big flatfish live on the bottom and seem little influenced by what's going on up above. For salmon fishing, however, you must meet the runs of fish returning to the rivers to spawn. A run can be as short as a week of peak fishing in each stream for each of the five species of Pacific salmon, and when that week happens varies in every stream.

Always keep in mind when you go fishing that Fishing is called fishing - not catching - and of course it is always hard to predict nature. Every day is different and nobody can do anything about the weather. With that in the back of your mind we can give you the following guidelines. Halibut: year-round, best May-September fishing for Halibut out of Homer. The Limit is 2 Halibut per person per day. King Salmon: There are 2 runs of Kings. From mid May thru mid August the Kings are in the rivers.

In Alaska, northern lights are not normally visible during the summer months due the unusual amount of sunlight. The best time to see northern lights is in the wintertime.

Alaska cruises are only offered between May and September. If you want longer, warmer days, the best time to visit is mid June through mid August. This period also has the longest hours of daylight. Don’t expect to see fireworks on the 4th of July! This is also the busiest time to visit Alaska because school is on summer break and many families are traveling in Alaska. If your schedule is flexible, you may enjoy the spring flowers of May or the fall foliage of September.

Belize attracts visitors all year round but the peak season is from November to May. However great deals can be had if you travel from May onwards and most resorts offer Room Rates at a 20% discount.

We plan our departures to coincide with the best time of year for tours. Climate information will be detailed in each itinerary.

Snow-wise, early December can be fantastic or a flop. If you can book last-minute then come when, and if, the snow falls. (Keep checking our snow report and last-minute deals.) Empty pistes are guaranteed and bargains can be easily snapped up - even the lift pass is cheaper. Christmas and New Year are very popular so the resort and pistes will be busy, and prices much higher. Christmas in the snow can be magical. January is much underrated.

Applications for programs are taken on a "first come, first served" basis. The agency opens at 8:00 a.m. It is usually best to arrive as early as possible. The agency accepts applications for most programs anytime but it is best to arrive by 4:00 p.m. if possible in order to complete the application. Crisis applications are not accepted after 4:30 p.m. Group sessions for Food Stamps applications are available Monday - Friday at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

That depends. The early winter season tends to have powder, and lots of it. As the winter progresses, days become longer and a bit warmer. The overall stability tends to increase. Starts get earlier, until by May we are often on the way at 5 am with ski crampons on and ice axes on our packs to climb peaks and ski corn. Each part of the winter has its own rewards and challenges: I could not say what time is best. In the summer, conditions usually allow summer style ascents by July.
