LGCL identifies shortcuts for a small number of terms. These terms are recommended by LAWs for adoption as common shortcuts across local authority Web sites. Shortcuts are added to the Web site address of a local authority to provide a URL for a Web page with corresponding subject matter. For example: www.mycouncil.gov.uk/recycling should go to a page with content on rubbish, waste and recycling.

The alias command creates command aliases. Type alias shortstring="longcommandstring", substituting your own commands for shortstring and longcommandstring. The quotes around longcommandstring are necessary it the string contains spaces. You can put the alias commands into your login profile (see the next question).

Creating too many shortcuts, especially on the desktop, defeats their purpose, which is to make them easy to find. Also, desktop shortcuts are accessible only when they are visible ? in other words not hidden behind windows. When you have several windows open, and you need to use a desktop shortcut, you have to minimise or move the windows to get to it.

Open the "shortcuts.key" file inside Subtitle Workshop's directory with any text editor, read the information on the header, modify the file, save it and run the program.

Shortcuts to your favorite emoticons can be easily created to send your buddies. Simply place the cursor on any emoticon and click on the "EDIT" text which appears on the top of each icon. Clicking it will show an edit box where you can type the shortcut text you'd like, and after pressing "OK", you'll be able to select that emoticon by simply typing the shortcut text in the chat box. Note, shortcuts is available only for icons at this point.

You can quickly access your frequently used folders by adding them to Shortcuts list. This feature is more helpful when you have a large directory structure and the folders are under this structure. Please note that you can add only the folders to Shortcuts and not files.
