Edison Community College runs on semesters. There are three semesters a year at Edison: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Other universities may divide their year into quarters, and give quarter hour credits. Two quarter- hours are equivalent to one semester hour.

It does not matter whether your university is on a semester, trimester or quarter system because your university can easily convert Lexia credits listed on your Western Washington University transcript to your school's system. If you're on a quarter system at your home institution, you might consider participating in the Lexia program in the fall rather than in the spring so that you only miss one term at your home institution, rather than two.

Therefore, a 3-semester hour course transfers to Albion as .75 units and/or a three quarter hour course transfers as .50 units. While it may be possible to substitute a semester course for a quarter course, students who wish to repeat quarter courses should do so before Fall 2005. Some quarter courses may not have equivalents under semesters, and, therefore, will not be repeatable on the semester system. The content of some quarter courses may be dropped completely on the semester system or may be dispersed among several semester courses.

A credit hour is a measure of completed college work. Usually colleges give one credit hour for each hour of class time spent during the week. For example, MAT 121 (College Algebra) is a 4-credit course, therefore, you can expect to spend approximately 4 hours per week in your MAT 121 course.
