The "Classic" 427SC had competition pipes under the doors. Being real race cars, the finish was not particularly important, and they were typically painted with a simple high temperature paint - usually white (see the top picture), sometimes black. No gloss, and the paint didn't stand up very well. On the other hand, a simple spray can would rejuvenate the pipes. Some people, wanting a more durable finish, have there pipes ceramic coated. Exhaust brakes are available on some Freightliner chassis. An exhaust brake is a vehicle-retarding device that comes in handy in hilly terrain. It helps slow the vehicle, resulting in longer life of the service brakes. The parking brake will not release until there is at least 65 psi of pressure in the brake system. Check the air gauges to make sure that you have at least 65 psi in the air system before releasing the parking brake. If not, contact your nearest service facility.

Has the converter been removed from the system? This will make the system louder as the converter will act as a sound absorbing devise. If possible, place your hand on the tail pipe and try to move the system from side to side, then up and down, to determine if the system is hung securely and not grounding or touching the under-body of the vehicle. If the noise is a popping sound at the tail pipe end, check under the hood and determine if the engine is equipped with an A.I.R. pump. If an A.I.R.

Some time ago some CG members asked how to clean the exhaust system. I then suggested to use a chemical used to clean up stainless steel after welding or heat-treatment. I just did a small test to show how well it works. I had to do it in the shower, instead of outdoors (due to low temperatures outside), I just covered part of the "can" and pipe. The more you use of the chemical, the more poisonous gas is produced. After 1 hour.

Went down to fill up the coolant on my bike. It was dark and cold out. After I filled it up, I turned the bike on to idle. After two or three minutes I looked over and noticed that the large metal pipe that comes out of the top of the engine and heads to the exhaust was bright red at the top!! Is that normal? Although car body shampoo will get rid of most of the dirt and grime off your exhaust tailpipe I found the best way of cleaning either stainless steel or chrome is with a product called Brasso. This will clean the most stubborn of dirt and carbon deposits off the exhaust leaving it once again lovely and shiny.
