The time needed to master the body of knowledge and prepare for the exams will depend upon each candidate’s background, experience, and study habits. With that caution, we estimate that a minimum commitment of 50 hours will be required at each level of the CIPM program. Candidates who passed the Principles exam in 2006 averaged approximately 60 hours in preparation time. Candidates who passed the September–October 2006 Expert exam averaged approximately 73 hours in preparation time.

We believe you need to commit to a minimum of 250 hours reading and reviewing the curriculum and taking online sample and mock exams to master the material. This recommendation, however, may substantially underestimate the hours needed for appropriate exam preparation depending on individual circumstances and academic background.

The preparation required is minimal. An intravenous catheter is placed in a vein in the arm. A drug is typically used to control or slow down the heart rate, and contrast is injected into the vein. The procedure usually takes a few minutes in total.

Beginning two to three months in advance will help ensure the success of a screening program. The program manual provides a suggested timeline of activities. Be sure to register early to receive your manual and materials well in advance of your chosen screening date.

The exam will demand a great deal of time and effort. We recommend about 250-300 hours of study time for good exam preparation. Attending our live instructional review should reduce that time to around 200 hours. Note: Time needed will vary based on your expertise and experience in each area.

It is important that you not have any thing to eat or drink except water for 4-6 hours prior to the exam. Food or beverages may interfere with the absorption of the tracer. It is best to avoid unnecessary physical activity on the day of the exam prior to arriving. This may increase the amount of the tracer absorbed by the muscles which may intefere with the exam. You may take any medications not related to diabetes. IMPORTANT: If you are diabetic, please alert the person who scheduled your exam.

Students are afraid they'll forget what they've already learned if they study for another exam, but it simply doesn't work that way. The reality is that questions in later pools reinforce your understanding of the earlier pools, much as Algebra II reinforces what you learned in Algebra I.

It all depends on how much free time I have available to me. I try to put in as many hours as possible, but I can only fit in only 6-10 hours during a typical week. In hot & humid climates, the bacilli seem to loose their acid-fatness. Even the stained bacilli may also loose the stain by osmosis in such climates. Therefore, slides labeled positive for Acid fast Bacilli (AFB) by lab technician (L.T.) but negative by senior lab technician (STLS) should be re-stained.

You should refresh your memory regarding your medical history. Make a list of your doctors' names, addresses, phone numbers, and any current and past medications prescribed to you. We understand how busy you are and having this information available during the examination will enable our examiner to take as little of your time as possible. If you are scheduled to have a blood draw, you should avoid eating for a minimum of 4-hours prior to your exam.

For some ultrasound exams, you may be asked to refrain from eating or drinking for a few hours before the study. For others, you may need to have a full bladder.
