If you order your cheques through HSBC Bank Canada, our cheque supplier has already implemented the new cheque standards for both personal and business cheques. Although we cannot confirm what other printers and suppliers will be doing, all Canadian business cheques must conform to the specifications as defined in Part A of Standard 006, by September 2, 2008. If you do not order your cheques through HSBC, you will need to check with your supplier.

Cheque imaging is a process where by electronic images of cheques are captured at the time the cheque is presented. Customers will continue to write, deposit and negotiate cheques in the same way, but will no longer receive cancelled cheques. The processing center of the financial institution receiving the cheque will capture the amount, the electronic ‘codeline data’ at the bottom of the cheque and a digital image of the front and back of the cheque.
