The most commonly used rods are 5 or 6-weights, 9' long. 8 - 8 1/2' rods are also used, but the longer rod is preferable for wind casting and mending purposes. Lighter weight rods can also be used, but again, the heavier rod is preferable partly because we tend to be throwing larger flies than what you may be accustomed to. Flies ranging from size 12 through size 6 are the norm, not the exception.

We will be taking a variety of equipment along in order to document to the best degree possible the people and places we encounter. For still photography, have a range of camera bodies from basic point and shoot models to professional grade SLR cameras which will enable us to capture a wide variety of images in a wide variety of conditions.

Be aware that the lake bed surface is hard. You can go very fast and will hit the ground hard if you should fall. Safety equipment is required for all pilots. Bring a helmet in addition to elbow and knee pads. Some wear full motor-cross body armor. It seems the most highly recommended is an onion bag of some kind or a mesh bag. For several reasons, one being it allows your morels to breath thus keeping them fresh and lets some of the little critters fall out.

We do not want campers to bring bikes or other such equipment to camp. We prefer to use our own since we keep maintenance records on everything. Campers may choose to bring their own tennis racquets, bike or riding helmets, riding boots. However, camp furnishes all of this and we don't want a camper's items to be lost or broken.

Cameras with extra film, batteries, lens cleaner, and lens caps, a pair of binoculars for each person in your group, battery charging equipment, and a headlamp (useful if you feel the need to read at night). All camps and lodges have sufficient lighting, but not always enough, I feel, to read by.

Yes, some of the camps will publish a list of items (clothes, shoes, and equipment) that they would like their students to bring with them. For example, the Playwriting/Screenwriting Camp recommends that each student bring a laptop computer and tape recorder with them. The acting and musical theater camps also suggest their campers bring a small tape recorder. Other camps may also list some requests in their Registration Packet.
