If you are wearing soft contacts they need to be out for at least two weeks before your evaluation exam and two weeks before your surgery. If you are wearing hard or gas permeable contact lenses they need to be out for at least three weeks prior to your exam and surgery. If you have little or no astigmatism we can try and get you into soft lenses for this three week period.

Dr. Denman has had uniform success in almost all cases of patients who have for one reason or another needed to wear contacts after RK, PRK or LASIK surgery. It would be very unusal to need contact lenses, but if this were necessary for complete correction of vision under certain circumstances, in most cases a contact lens fitting is fairly easily done.

Total joint replacement surgery typically lasts 1-2 hours. If your case may require longer, your doctor will have discussed this with you. If for some reason your surgery takes longer than anticipated, the operating room staff will be in contact with your family.

If the patient opts to have only one eye treated at a time, a contact lens maybe needed for the untreated eye until the second eye is done. This can be done in almost all cases, even if you have not been able to tolerate contacts in the past.

After wearing contacts for an extended period of time, it is possible for the contact lenses to alter the natural shape of your eyes. During your evaluation, Dr. Koenig wants to make certain he is accurately measuring the natural curve of your cornea. This means that if you wear contacts you will need to leave them out for a period of time prior to your evaluation. If you wear soft lenses, they’ll need to be left out for a minimum of two weeks prior to your evaluation.

It is necessary to discontinue all contact lens wear prior to your procedure so that your cornea can resume its natural curvature. With soft contacts, depending on the type of soft contact lens worn, you may need to be out of the lenses between two weeks to two months prior to LASIK. With hard or rigid gas permeable lenses, more than two months out of your contacts is generally required. Return to Top of List

The children are placed in short leg casts at the time of surgery; these casts will be on for up to six weeks. The children should keep their feet elevated for the first 48 hours and/or up to one week after surgery to decrease swelling and pain. They may walk on these casts and most children feel well enough to be up on their feet in three of four days.

Every patient and every eye is different, but patients commonly see well enough to drive the day after surgery. Ask your doctor how quickly he or she expects you to recover.

After you have decided to schedule you will usually be able to get a surgical date within 4 to 8 weeks.

Depending on the procedure you underwent and how well you are recovering, you will need therapy anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks postoperatively.

Dr. Stanley decides how long you will be off of work based on the type of surgery, your recovery process, and the type of job you are employed in. In most cases, patients return to work in about 4 to 6 weeks.(non surgical patient) Dr. Stanley does prefer that you return to the office after you have completed a course of physical therapy, in order to monitor your progress and provide you the best care.
