Yes it does. Usually provided by diesel powered generators at each base, but in the last couple of years, some bases, particularly the Australian ones have installed windmills to generate supplementary electricity. This makes sense as Antarctica is the windiest place on earth, but poses a problem in case the wind damages the windmills.

The Arctic situation may be different. I have not studied it close enough to comment. From what I know it is different, and more observations have been made over the last several years to back up what is being researched there.

there are no electric lines beyond the village, all the resorts south of Jinetes de Osa Inn must generate their own power. At the chalet, we have a generator, along with a system of 12 volt batteries. The chalet is wired with 110V AC (same as the USA). When the generator is turned off, the refrigerator, communications system, lights and outlets at the chalet are powered by the battery bank.
