No. Most incidences of insect bites are caused by organisms that are visible to the naked eye. Fleas require a host such as a dog, cat or rat. As such the most common flea that bites people is the cat flea. They do not spontaneously appear in sand without some connection to a host animal. Yes. As the sand cools at night the sand fleas come out. Wear deet, or whatever you feel works, for both mosquitoes and sand flees. Many larger resorts spray the sand for sand fleas.

Spray the yard, spray and flea-bomb the house, flea bathe the cat or dog and then use either powders/sprays or one of the new spot-on products (Advantage or Frontline). The powders/sprays need daily application, while the spot-on products are applied monthly. It may take a few months to see good results.

All dogs who come to Doggie Day Care are required to either be on a flea preventative medication or will be check for fleas every time they come. If fleas are found on your pet, they will be sent home. Our facility is specifically set up to not inhabit fleas as our outdoor yard and rubber floor are cleaned and sanitized daily.

We recommend treating your home as well as your pet for fleas. For your pet, we recommend a "spot-on" product that kills fleas and ticks. For your home, we recommend a combination of household flea "bombs" and an area treatment spray. A sand bar is a raised deposition of sand, gravel, or other sediment by waves or currents. A shoal is the same deposition of sand, gravel, or sediment but also provides a hazard to the navigation of watercraft.

Pool in the Park we use sand-based filters to clean the water, occasionally some of this sand flows back into the pool. You may occasionally notice it gathers in certain areas where the water is at its stillest, usually at the bottom. Don't worry it is completely harmless and gets swept up regularly by our pool vacuum cleaner.
