The only similarity is that they are both baked-on finishes. Powder coatings are baked at 425 degrees to melt the powder to a smooth finish. You must never get it that hot again, or it will burn off. A lot of the K1200RS and R1100S riders have their headers, etc. coated and most have reported very positive results. I've seen their promotional video and considered it before selling my K12. Is there a feel due to Anitmicrobial Coatings which differs in texture from other powder coatings? I refer to "hand", in the textile industry sense. Generally, there is nothing in the feel or appearance of the coating that will indicate an antimicrobial product, but the incorporation process can lead to more orange peel.

Chromex discolors only when a temperature of 1300 degrees is exceeded, at which point, the finish dulls, but does not turn purple or gold. Our satin coatings retain their color up to 2000 degrees.
