Here are notes on setting up MS Outlook for email access under MS Windows 95 or 98. We will use, in this outline, an example user named John Smith with a mail account name of smith@rxn.com and a dialup PPP account name of Psmith. You will need to substitute your own account names. MS Outlook is a commercial email client from MicroSoft. In MS IE, select [View], then [Internet Options...], then select the [Programs] tab. Next to the Mail label, select MS Outlook. Save your changes.

Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) allows Faculty, Staff, and Students to use Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 to connect to the Exchange server from off-campus without the use of a VPN client. Please see Outlook Anywhere for instructions on how to configure your Outlook profile off-campus use. NOTE: After making this change you will need to authenticate every time you open Outlook, regardless of whether you are on- or off-campus, or if you are logging into the ADMIN or STUDENT domain.

VPN allows you to use the same email configuration away that you use on campus. See Install and Configure Eudora.

Here are notes on setting up MS Outlook Express for email access under MS Windows 98. One of the nice features about MS Outlook Express is the ability to setup multiple email accounts. We will use, in this outline, an example user named John Smith with an RXN mail account name of smith@rxn.com and a dialup PPP account name of Psmith. You will need to substitute your own account names. MS Outlook Express is the mail interface distributed with IE 4.0.

With the variety of different email programs that are available, we cannot provide all the details for each and every one of them. All of them should have the same basic required settings for accessing your email. These are: For SMTP access to send email using your SMTP server, set your Outgoing Mail Server to: mail.yourdomain.

If your college or department offers Outlook Web Access, you can access your Outlook calendar from the portal by clicking on the Outlook icon in the upper right corner of the RamPoint screen.

Right-click Internet Email then click Properties (if Internet Email is not in the list click Add, Internet Email, then OK )

Select "POP3" from the pull-down menu as your server type. Then enter "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your incoming mail server and "smtpo.ctimail.com" as your outgoing mail server. Press "NEXT" to continue. (* Click here for selection of incoming mail server) Select "Use an existing dialup connection" button and then select "CTInets" from the scroll-down menu. Press "NEXT".

Fill in your name and your email address. Then type "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your Internet mail server. The account name is your login ID and then enter your password. Afterwards, press " ADVANCED OPTIONS" button. (* Click here for selection of incoming mail server)

Set-up a new account in Outlook Express, and use the following details: POP Server: mail.domain.com , SMTP serer: mail.domain.com , username: email@address.com and password: the password you specified when creating the account.

Outlook should now be running properly. You must now set up your account. These steps will help you get to your CAC access account. On the Advanced tab. You may change the lower settings if you prefer. If these machines aren't your primary mail reader, you may want to uncheck the 'Remove from server after X days' so your primary machine will download them instead.

If you have an outlook email account, you can access your email and calendar from anywhere in the world. The following document will give you instructions on how to access your mailbox as well as how to install a certificate on your home computer.

If your college or department supports Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), you can read your mail by clicking on the Outlook icon in the upper right corner of the RamPoint screen. If your department does not support Outlook Web Access, you cannot get to Outlook from the portal.

Go to Tools->Accounts and select the account you just created (e.g. pop.asylee.net). Select 'Set as Default' if this is your primary e-mail address. Select 'Properties' Select the "Servers" Tab and check the box "My server requires Authentication" under "Outgoing Mail Server" and select "Okay"

In the E-mail Address field, enter userid @ship.edu (substitute your own username for userid. Then enter your password. If you are accessing Outlook WebAccess from a private computer, change the Security option to Private. This will increase the length of the Outlook screen timeouts.
