What's the difference between horsepower to the flywheel and horsepower to the wheels?
w w w . v a n c o u v e r c i v i c s . c o mHorsepower to the flywheel is usually what you see manufacturers stating about their cars. This means an engine without the transmission, wheels, etc.. is strapped to an engine dyno and the flywheel horsepower is measured. In the case of a 2000 Honda Civic Si, the motor is a D16Y8. The motor is rated at 127HP. This is the horsepower rating at the flywheel. See similar questions...
What is the difference between the horsepower at the flywheel and at the wheels?
FAQsAt the flywheel horsepower is always higher than the wheel horsepower. When the power is being transferred from the engine to the wheels, so of the power gets wasted in the drivetrain moving parts, such as the transmission and differentials. So, the wheel horsepower is the power that actually made it to the wheels. Remember, AWD cars have a higher horsepower loss in the drivetrain than the FWD or RWD car. See similar questions...
Will a flywheel add horsepower?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSFlywheels are like money in the bank; you can't take out what your haven't put in! A flywheel is essentially a storage device. On larger displacement engines, lighter flywheels (10-14 lbs.) tend to work well mostly because they are easier on the long stroke cranks. Less stress is introduced to the end of the crank when less mass needs to be "brought up to speed." In stock classes a heavier wheel (18-22 lbs. See similar questions...
Why does Banks rate horsepower at the rear wheels when engine horsepower is higher?
Increased Airflow | Banks Power | FAQs: Banks power and perf...Flywheel horsepowerthe number vehicle manufacturers use in advertisingis measured at the flywheel of the engine on an engine test stand or dynamometer. This of course does not take into account any of the vehicle drivetrain or accessories, such as the fan, alternator, power steering, etc. One advantage to testing on an engine dyno is the ability to control the environment and the operating conditions of the engine. What is the difference between Net and Gross horsepower?
Page not found - ThirdGen.orgPrior to 1972, dyno testing was done with an open exhaust, no air cleaner, best fuel and timing for power, high octane leaded gas, and no accessory drives. To correct the observed data, a standard correction factor (29.92 inches of barometric pressure at 60 degrees Fahrenheit dry air) was used. This is defined as the Gross Horsepower rating. In 1972, with the crunch of the fuel crisis and insurance crack-downs, the SAE called for a switch to a Net Horsepower rating. See similar questions...
What is the difference between tubular and clincher wheels? Which should I get?
Endurance World: FAQTubular and clincher are the types of rims that use different kinds of tires / tubes combination. Tubular rims are lighter and require the tire (a sew-up with the tube inside) to be glued to the rim. Clincher rims have a "lip" onto which the tires are attached (no glue required) to the rim. Tubular tires have the tube already inside, while clincher tires use a tube and tire that can be easily separated. See similar questions...
How do I remove the flywheel?
HPI Racing - Frequently Asked QuestionsThere are many methods to removing an engine flywheel. The easiest method that will not damage the engine's piston is the "hydro lock" or "hydraulic" method. With the engine out off the chassis, glow plug install and the exhaust header removed, turn the engine upside-down. Use a non-silicone after run oil to fill the cylinder. Turn the flywheel until the piston compresses the after run oil against the top of the cylinder. See similar questions...

Dexter Axle - Trailer Axles and Running Gear Components - FA...Hub-piloted wheels have a center hole machined to a close tolerance and are intended to mate with a hub having a properly sized pilot diameter. The bolt holes will be bored or stamped straight through the center disc which is designed to be fastened with either flanged nuts or a clamp ring using cone nuts. Stud-piloted wheels have a center hole which provides clearance to the hub nose. The bolt holes feature a tapered seat designed for clamping with properly matched cone nuts. See similar questions...

Should I lighten my flywheel?
This is a very good idea as the engine will rev much easier. Take it to a professional though as they will be able to advise on how much to lighten it by. Too much and not only will you weaken the flywheel but the engine will not idle very well. Getting to the flywheel requires the removal of the gearbox which is a time consuming task. Therefore it only makes economic sense to lighten the flywheel at the same time as the clutch is being replaced. See similar questions...

Hed Cycling - Technical - Frequently Asked QuestionsThe faster you go, the more power you produce. Efficient use of this power depends on how good your aerodynamics are. The time savings provided by aero wheels are always going to be proportional to the power of the rider. It doesn't matter whether you produce 300 watts or 150 watts. In fact, slower riders may not be going at the same speed as faster ones, but aero wheels actually save them an even greater amount of time over the same distance. See similar questions...
