People who look to begin singing usually ask for "singing lessons" but people who teach singing most often call themselves "voice teachers" or advertise "voice lessons" because they teach you how to master the use of your instrument, which is your voice. Just like in piano lessons, where you master the instrument, the piano. You may also see ads for "vocal coaches".

However in the US, unlike European nations such as Germany and England, the choir system for kids in school has been all but obliterated.

In general we advise to wait until a child is 12 or 13 to begin private lessons. Training the voice is demanding on the vocal chords and putting too much stress on them before puberty may cause damage to them. Prior to that, singing in groups such as our Junior Choristers classes (K-2nd Grade), our Treble Junior Providence Singers chorus (Grades 4-8), school or church choirs is the best way to begin your child's vocal education.

In a private lesson you work one-on-one with your instructor. A truly certified instructor has a trained eye, is focused solely on your form, will be able to spot unbalanced movement patterns, and address them giving constant correction. During your private lesson, you will get the opportunity to be on the different pieces of Pilates equipment. The equipment uses springs and straps to ensure proper position that will intensify the feedback into your body.

Private lessons are taught one on one with only the student and instructor. Group Lessons are held in a classroom environment with an average of 8 couples. Private lessons are very flexible and can be scheduled whenever you and the instructor are available; whereas, Group Lessons meet at a regularly scheduled time each week. Due to the nature of a Private Lesson, they are more expensive ranging from $65-125 per hour. On the other hand, Group Lessons start at around $14 for a 55 minute class.

Keyboard lessons will normally have 5-7 pupils in, and are designed to be a light-hearted, pressure-free environment for children to learn in. Keyboard students would normally not take exams, for instance. However, as with all our classes there are methods we use of providing incentives and targets to keep students motivated - gold stars, stickers, end-of term certificates, informal tests, etc.
