Magnet Programs emphasize a specialized theme. Magnet schools offer a specialized curriculum based on a specific theme, such as math, science, technology or fine arts. In a magnet school, every child is part of the magnet. A magnet program is a school within a school. Only the students accepted into the specific program are part of the magnet, while the remainder of the school operates traditionally.

Students who are eligible to attend a Baltimore County Public School may apply. Some restrictions may apply. Students who are homeless, or appear to be homeless, are entitled to apply to a magnet program just as any other student. (Please refer to PS 512.) The Phoenix Union High School District offers eleven magnet programs and one magnet high school for the 2004-2005 school year. A magnet program provides a special curriculum which is designed to provide both specialized and advanced preparation to students with special needs or ambitions.

ONLY kindergarten applicants who have an older sibling who is currently enrolled in and who will continue to attend the same magnet program for which admission is being sought receive preferential placement for that program.
