PLEASE READ THIS PARAGRAPH TWICE. NO USB external floppy drive will support Apple 400K or 800K diskettes. Period. Also, there are NO EXTERNAL SCSI-BASED floppy drives to speak of, today. Period. And Apple's older external floppy drives for 400K, 800K and 1.4Mb are intended for use ONLY with Apple Macs which already have an INTERNAL floppy drive. Period. Floppy Disks are extremely unreliable! Many students have lost essays and class projects as a result of a failing floppy disk. Don't let this happen to you! If you must use a floppy disk, make at least two back-up disks. Always create more than one copy of your files, and save them in multiple locations (or e-mail the file to yourself) Print out a hard copy of your document. Disk Groups help you organize Dynamic Disks and help to prevent data loss. Windows 2000 allows only one Disk Group per computer (this may change). Disk Groups can organize storage when you use Veritas LDM-Pro. A Disk Group uses a name consisting of the computer name plus a suffix of Dg0. I have used the Maxtor-4380E on several PC's using both Everex and Adaptec ESDI controllers. In both cases, I used debug to low level format the drive (-g=c800:5) using the controller's onboard ROM format utility. Since DOS has a limit of 1024 cylinders and the drive has 1222 cylinders, when you run fdisk you only see about 270Mb of disk. (I don't know why you are only getting 52Mb). See similar questions...

Because it doesn't work yet. RedSquirrel is a Win32 application and as such is restricted to using the Win32 API. Windows doesn't support anything other than 512byte blocks on floppy/hard disks and Acorn disks use 1024 byte blocks. There are two ways around this, neither are pretty and neither work under Windows 2000. I had a half hearted attempt at writing a VXD to give me bios access but it hasn't been entirely successful. With a program called 22disk, and an adaptor board that you can make, you can read those disks on your PC. All it takes is rearranging some of the lines on the 34 pin cable, and wiring them to the 50 pin cable, and you're in business. The interface on 8" drives and 5 1/4" drives are essentially the same. The 34 lines on a typical 5 1/4" controller are sufficient to control most 8" disk drives using soft-sectored disks. See similar questions...

Yes (Windows 2000 or later), make sure you read the floppy disk using the "emergency" mode and that you check the option in the settings to "recreate bad sectors" before you write the image file back to your new floppy disk. Some floppy disks use protection schemes that do not rely on bad sectors and might not work with Floppy Image. See similar questions...

To send AND STORE a Voice to the VL70-m using the Expert Editor (the program is named "VLEDITOR.EXE" on your PC), simply open a .LIB file, highlight the desired Voice, click on the "Send" menu, select "Custom", then select a number from 1 to 6 from the pop-down menu.
