Some tornadoes may form during the early stages of rapidly developing thunderstorms. They spin up when an storm's updraft picks up a low-level spinning vortex and tilts up upward. It then stretches it making it spin faster. These types of tornadoes are most common along the front range of the Rocky Mountains, in the Plains and the Western states.
