To best explain the most common causes of this problem, lets follow the path of the strings. We begin at the tuners. If the they are poorly made, loose, or installed incorrectly, the strings will slip. Next, the strings can bind at the nut if the slots are cut at the wrong angle or incorrect width. Now the strings pass over the entire neck and this is where intonation is very important. If it has not been properly set, you will notice some chords sound in tune and others do not.

Sure. The onboard guitar preamp isn't usually necessary, but the AP 13 will work fine with most all varieties. Check to see if you need phantom power from the AP 13 though. This setting can be very important to maximizing performance with a second preamp.

Ok first lets start with humidity and seasonal changes. Sometimes these will cause changes in the amount of relief present in your guitar neck. The result may be minor fret buzz or action that feels a bit higher than normal. A truss rod adjustment is usually all that is needed. As for temperature... cold isn't so bad, its how quickly the guitar warms up that causes problems.

A kit from any reputable dealer will likely make a fine instrument. Our members seem to prefer the kits from Stuart-MacDonald largely because they include both a full-size plan and an instructional video, and because with their kits you get the option of a bolt-on neck. We don't recommend trying to alter a kit that has pre-bent sides, nor to change a 14-fret neck to a 12-fret neck (or the other way around).

Yes, the iP-1 and the iP-2 both have the split-saddle option. These systems are supplied with two pickup sensors connected to one preamplifier, specifically for split-saddle guitar. (There is an additional charge for the second pickup).

Gold plated plugs can actually cause problems. When plugged in to a regular nickel plated socket, the dissimilar metals can create distortion (through a slight diode action). The real benefit of gold plated connectors is that they do not tarnish, but they must be mated with gold sockets.

The Acoustic Lens pickup was designed and voiced specifically for the steel string guitar. It can be installed on most steel string guitars but because of its mounting location requirements, it will not work in some instruments. Classical (nylon string) guitars use fan bracing, where the braces run over the bridgeplate and block the area where the pickups need to mount, and so are unsuitable candidates for installation.

I recommend taking guitar lessons because a good teacher can look at your playing and tell you what you are doing wrong before it becomes a bad habit. I can't do that over e-mail. However, if you don't have time or money, you can learn on your own. It just takes more time and there is no guarantee that you will do it right.
