Start with one lead of the meter (or test light) to the positive lead on the rectifier. Touch the other test lead one at a time to each of the terminals of the rectifier. At this point you will either have continuity or not but it should be the same with all the AC terminals on Swap the test leads (still working with the positive terminal of the rectifier) and repeat the test. This test should have the opposite Move on to the negative lead off the rectifier and repeat the 2 previous tests.

The rectifier turns AC (alternating current) from the wall into DC (direct current, like a battery provides). Amp electronics need DC to work. Without rectifiers, you'd need batteries, and even a Champ would suddenly be a lot bigger and weigh a bunch more (and cost a lot more to operate). In a push-pull amp, the tube rectifier will drop more voltage as the current through it increases. As you turn up the amp and dig in, the power tubes pull more current. This causes the tube rectifier to drop more voltage, causing an overall drop on the B+, changing the tone of the amp-- adding some mojo. Most of the [AX84 amps] are single ended. There are three internal variable resistors on the front plate of the rectifier module. Compare the load sharing state and balance the load, turning the middle variable resistor clockwise using a crosshead screwdriver. If the load is not shared even though you try to adjust it, establish the output voltage again on the control unit or check the load sharing state again by turning the rectifier off and on. You should be wary of blindly plugging a solid-state module into a tube rectifier socket. A tube rectifier will drop about 50V to 60V and limit the maximum voltage on the input filter cap. Solid-state diodes drop only half a volt, so the filter may be subject to overvoltage. A module can be made from 50V, 50W zener diodes that maintain a constant voltage drop and protect the cap.
