The top coatings we use contain solvents, which are necessary to make the finish hard and durable. We use ventilation fans to exhaust air from the work area outside, minimizing the fresh paint like odor. 80% to 90% of the smell will be exhausted within the first 4 to 5 hours and substantially gone within a day.

Yes, we have a refinishing and restoration service. This service is for Gerstner Chests only. We can not restore products that were not manufactured by us, due to different construction and materials used in making the products. Refinishing and restoration services can meet or exceed the cost of a new chest. When we refinish or restore a chest, we process them one at a time. We have to completely strip a chest of all finish, hardware and felt before we can begin to repair and refinish the chest.

First of all, to replace something you MUST first tear our the old items. When considering the cost of replacement you must consider tear out, cost of replacement item, labor for installation, not to mention the mess and time it will take. For example, normal costs for relacing a bathtub range from $1,500 - $3,000 and will usually take one and a half to two weeks to complete. Refinishing takes less than one day and will save at least 70% vs. replacement.

Not at all. We will sand to the edges. The only time it makes sense to not have baseboards in place is on a new install to be sure the wood extends to the walls.

When the finishes are applied and drying, you won’t be able to have access to those areas for at least 8 hours. On the finish coat we like to have it out of bounds for 24 hours to ensure a top quality job. This can pose a bit of a problem if the areas you are having restored are hallways or areas you need to access for bedrooms or washrooms etc. If this is the case, or if you are having your entire house refinished, it may be best to stay somewhere else for a few nights.
