Puppies need their first check-up by 8 weeks of age. They will be checked for Hernias, heart murmurs or other abnormalities. The stool needs to be checked for intestinal parasites, and your pet will be de-wormed if necessary. Your puppy will get his first Distemper/parvo combination vaccine, and can be started on heartworm prevention. After this visit, your puppy needs another distemper/parvo booster at 12 and 16 wks. His first Rabies vaccine can be given at 12 weeks or older.

We recommend that puppies receive a series of basic vaccinations every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16 to 17 weeks old. An individualized protocol and schedule will be discussed during your puppy's first visit, but usually includes a combination vaccine (several vaccines combined into one injection) called a DHPP which protects against Canine Distemper, Canine Infectious Hepatitis/Adenovirus, Canine Parvovirus, and Canine Parainfluenza.

At your puppies first visit it will receive a DHLPP (Canine Distemper) vaccine. This vaccine needs to be boostered every 3-4 weeks until your puppy is 16 weeks of age. We recommend vaccinating Rottweilers and Dobermans for DHLPP out to 20 weeks of age. We start all puppies and kittens with vaccines at 6-8 weeks of age. They need to be vaccinated from that point every 3 weeks, until they are at least 14 weeks old for kittens and 18 weeks for puppies. They can be vaccinated for rabies (which is required by law) after 12 weeks, and boostered in a year. one day old, a lamb should get a 1cc injection of BO-SE to prevent selenium deficiency. At 6 weeks and again at 8 weeks old, lambs get a 2cc injection of CD/T vaccine. Also at 6 weeks, give lambs a second injection of 1cc of BO-SE.

If you have a indoor cat we recommend the 3-way vaccine which includes feline rhinotracheitis-calici-panleukopenia viruses (FRCP). If you have an outdoor cat or one who comes in and out, we recommend the FRCP, Feline Leukemia, & Rabies vaccines. Out door cats run the risk of coming in contact with these diseases when they mingle with other cats or animals.

Some diseases are still so common that a choice not to get a vaccine is a choice to risk natural infection. Examples of these diseases include chickenpox, pertussis, hepatitis B, influenza and pneumococcus. Some diseases still occur in the United States at very low levels, so if immunization rates dropped even a little bit, outbreaks of disease would sweep across the country rapidly. Examples of these diseases include measles, mumps, rubella and Hib.

You will need to puppy-proof your home. You need to pick up anything you don't want the puppy to chew. You will need to get basic supplies that you might not already have like dishes, collar, lead, beds, crate, toys, treats, etc. You will need to decide what to feed the dog for food. You should prepare your yard for the puppy by getting rid of any toxic plants or inappropriate items and check your fencing. You should read about Airedales and the needs of a puppy.

Puppies must have three sets of shots (DHLPP + Corona) prior to visiting our shop. Puppies over four months should also have their first Rabies shot. The sooner you get your puppy used to being professionally groomed, the better. You can help prepare your puppy by regularly handling his feet, ears and looking inside his mouth. Basic obedience training will benefit everyone who comes into contact with your puppy.

During your first visit, you will receive a Puppy Folder containing a detailed informational brochure entitled "Your Dog, A Guide to Vaccination". This pamphlet helps explain the importance of vaccinations, especially in puppies. It also touches on how vaccines work and why your puppy needs more than one vaccine. For overnight boarding, puppies must be at least 15 weeks old and have received at least two puppy (DHLPP) shots and a bordetella vaccination (rabies vaccinations are not required for young puppies).
