The sole purpose of the MySQL server is to support http applications on z. As such, you should be able to administer MySQL from your http application. (This is basically a security policy -- I don't want to make a MySQL server visible to the endless stream of portscans, so 3306/tcp is blocked at the router). But that's unreasonable. Some MySQL operations are are only possible (or at least are much more easily done) with direct access to the server.

You are probably running into resource limitations in your operating system. The most common limitation is the per-process limit on file descriptors, which is almost always the cause of problems seen when adding virtual hosts. Apache often does not give an intuitive error message because it is normally some library routine (such as gethostbyname()) which needs file descriptors and doesn't complain intelligibly when it can't get them. There are a couple of possible causes of problems authenticating yourself to the VNC Server. The most basic of these is that you have not configured a VNC Authentication password - VNC Server won't let you connect without supplying a password unless the server is explicitly configured to use No Authentication.
