White gold is pure gold that has been mixed with alloys to make it appear to be white. Platinum is a pure metal that is naturally white in color and is stronger and more durable than white gold. There is no such thing as natural white gold-it's all yellow gold that is alloyed with white metal (usually nickel) and then plated with white metal (usually rhodium).

Some people find platinum preferable to white gold- if they are allergic to the nickel (in some white gold alloys). Platinum is also an excellent choice as the setting material for your diamond jewelry because of its strength and durability.

Because both of these metals are actually gray colored metals there would be very little if any contrast between them. If you want a white on white look, consider the sterling and palladium (a platinum family metal) Classic band or the 18K white gold and silver Terra rings. All of our rings are about 50 - 50 visually, but there are slight variations due to the way the patterning process exposes the metals. It is about 50/50 by weight.
