The region code is usually specified on the back of the individual DVD packages, either with a Regional Coding logo of a globe with the region number superimposed over it, or specifically spelled out. For example, while currently-released New Line and Warner DVD titles use the globe logo & number scheme, MGM/UA titles state: "This disc has been encoded for Region 1: The United States, U.S. Territories and Canada.

Packet writing software uses UDF-formatted CD and DVD discs, and allows GRBackPro to write to your CD / DVD drive by treating it like a hard disk or a floppy diskette, using the regular drive letter.

In order to change the region code of a Kaleidescape Player or Reader, a DVD containing the new region code must be present in the Player or Reader's DVD/CD-ROM drive. Even if you manage to flash the firmware to the drive, chances are that the firmware may harm your drive due to specific parameters which were optimized for only one particular drive type, such as laser power settings, etc. which are optimized for one particular optical pickup.

If you are shown a screen stating that there has been a Region Error when you try to load your DVD disc, this means that the disc you are attempting to play contains a Region Code which is different to that of your DVD player (also meaning that your DVD player is not Multi-Region compatible) and so the disc will not run on this machine. You should never see this error when playing Region 0 discs.

The LightScribe DVD+/-RW / CDRW combination drive can read, write and, using the appropriate media, rewrite a variety DVD and CD media, including CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+RW and DVD-RW. DVD+R, DVD-R and CD-R media are compatible with this drive but are a single write media. The DVD+RW, DVD-RW and CD-RW media can be written to multiple times.

The DVD 'world' is broken up into regions (see the map below). Most DVDs are hard coded with the region they are manufactured in (Ex: USA is region code 1). This coding can stop a disc from one area of the world from playing in a DVD player in another part of the world. All DVD players sold in PAL countries play both NTSC and PAL discs. These multi-standard players convert NTSC to PAL.

_As we produce our own DVDs, we have chosen not to use any Regional Coding at all. Hence you will not have any problems regarding region codes.
