The executable code needs about 1 to 1.5 MB, depending on the operating system and compiler. The source code needs less than 3 MB. While the input files are usually fairly small, output files for large problems with many output time steps may require hundreds of MB of hard disk space. The largest output file produced by the sample problem is the one for the three-dimensional version of sample 2 with about 23 MB.

This depends on what you expect your student to do with his or her Mac. The average MP3 music file, usually one song per file, takes up about 4 Mb of hard drive space, whereas one minute of video footage can take up about 210 Mb. The generally accepted rule is that 1 minute of sound takes up 1 MB of storage space when the file type is MP3. So an normal song would take about 4 MB and a normal 1 hour album would take about 60 MB. 1 MB per 1 Min makes conversion easy though - you should be able to work it out from there.
