All pools are fitted with a Hydrostatic valve in the floor this balances the outside pressure against the inside pressure of the pool which prevents the pool from lifting. If the pool is installed to manufacturer's requirements as set out in the install manual, it would be very uncommon.

Two to three feet is ideal.. Any more than that and you run a bigger risk of the pool caving in. You always want to make sure the water level is higher than the dirt. If the pool is to far into the ground and the ground around it gets to wet it could easily cave in. It is also a good idea to wait at least two years after the pool is installed before draining it. This give the dirt around it plenty of time to pack. Even then the pool should be drained and refilled in a day or two.

Anything but grass. Grass will grow under the pool and up through the liner or up the wall between liner and pool, or up the inside of the uprights creating great habitat for bugs and wasps. I prefer some type of rock landscape and it is best to use plastic under it because the water splashing out of the pool makes any vegetation grow very quickly. Plants should only be container type plants. They are easy to move when changing liners and they don't grow roots under the pool.

If there are no gas or solar heaters installed, an above-ground pool will typically need no more than 1 hp (3/4 hp can easily be used with less than 10,000 gallons of pool water.) When comparing a KD pool to metal wall above ground pools, there are many advantages. First, the KD pool is much easier to install than metal wall above ground pools and can be built on most surfaces. Therefore, grass does not have to be removed and replaced with a sand base like on metal wall pools. Also, the KD pools can be taken down yearly whereas a metal wall pool stays up year-round.

If you know the pools manufacturer sometimes you can download instructions from their web site or ask them to mail you a set. I have never liked manufacturer instructions because they seem to leave out so much helpful information and the little diagrams are tough to follow.
