Should I choose bleached or unbleached prefolds?

Punkin-Butt
Again, this is a personal preference. While the unbleached are better for the environment (the bleaching process produces a toxic byproduct- dioxin) and they tend to be softer some people prefer the cleaner look of bleached. One thing to consider, unbleached fabrics are much less processed and will therefore have a period of pilling. Small balls of fibers may be shed off of your unbleached prefolds for the first month or so of their life. This is normal and should be expected.

Fillings that have discolored indicate that they are either leaking or have secondary decay, so it is best to replace them. Why do my new prefolds look so flat and stiff?

DiaperWare: Frequently Asked Questions
New unbleached cotton prefolds look very flat and stiff before you wash them because the diaper retains a lot of natural waxes found in cotton. They will not absorb anything in this state! You need to pre-wash them before use to remove these waxes. Any unbleached cotton or hemp diapering product needs to be repeatedly washed in the hottest water you have until the natural waxes and oils have been removed. Berber is a weave, not a particular type of fabric. Berber is simply a type of loop construction that may come in olefin, nylon, wool, or a blend.
