In the past, KMFDM has stated: "We have no problem with a 'souvenir' type Walkman recording. We do have a problem if these recordings pop up commercially for horrendous prices like 'Operation KMFDM .'" KMFDM was on WaxTrax! for about 10 years prior to disbanding. The albums ATTAK and STURM & DRANG, and the single BOOTS were on Metropolis Records. WWIII was released on Sanctuary Records, but due to difference with the label KMFDM is currently signed with Metropolis Records.

Backstreets' official position is that we do not endorse the buying or selling of unauthorized material, and we do not carry bootlegs nor can we help collectors obtain these items. Bootleg collecting is a reality at present, however, and because our readers have repeatedly asked for it, we do provide a columnist who does consumer-oriented reviews of new bootlegs so collectors can know what dogs to avoid.

With the explosion of the internet, fans now have an easy means to contact each other to exchange bootleg recordings. There are many U2 mailing lists which allow for the trade of bootlegs, and still other lists which are dedicated to the trading of bootlegs. Many fans also maintain webpages which list the material that they have for trade. Often you do not need to have recordings to trade to make use of these services, as fans often will offer to make copies for blank CDs and postage in return.

KMFDM worked on the soundtrack for the PC game by 3D Realms entitled "Prey". The game was released in July of 2006, without the original KMFDM soundtrack. The developers have stated "It's not the direction we're going in".

The drive behind this band was never like, 'Let's start a band and get, like a good record deal, and make lots of money' It's more like we want to see how far we can go..in terms of ripping the system.."

What Do You Know Deutschland?, Don't Blow Your Top, and UAIOE were all released on September 12, 2006. They have been remastered and each include a booklet with detailed liner notes, never before seen photos,and lyrics. The remainder of the catalog will be released in chronological order three at a time, with the next three being released in November 2006, than January 2007.
