What is the difference between ASPI, ASAPI and Native drivers?

JamToThis - FAQ: vBulletin FAQ
EAC communicates directly with the CD-ROM drives. For this EAC make use of several interfaces which do the low level work. You can choose the interface by your own in the EAC options (depending which interfaces are installed in your computer). ASPI is from Adaptec, it comes preinstalled in Win95/98. In all other Windows it needs to be installed, but in these OS the installer tests if any Adaptec hardware is in your computer.

The latest ASPI drivers from Adaptec (version 4.71) does not work with CDex, what's wrong?

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions | CDex
It does work, but likely there is still something wrong with the registry settings (installation is not the strongest point of Adaptec). You might try the fix which is available on the following site: Winamp reports the location of the first MPEG header in the MPEG stream data. If you have enabled the ID3V2 tags, it will place the ID3V2 header before the MPEG stream, the the first MPEG header will be shifted with the size of the ID3V2 header. See similar questions...

How do I call my native drivers and applications?

Java SE for Embedded - Technical Info and FAQ
The Java SE specification provides an interface to native drivers and C or C++ functions called the Java Native Interface (JNI). JNI works by creating a Java-visible wrapper around the native code, a new header file to cross-reference the wrapper, and then a call from the Java program which allows parameters to be passed and received by the native code. How do I manually install the ASPI DOS drivers?

AKAI FAQ PAGE
Ok, so if you don't want (or have) the Adaptec's ASPI EZ SCSI Installation Disquette, you can install these drivers manually - it's very straight forward. First of all, copy the ASPI drivers in a subdirectory or create one called ASPI for example. The drivers you need are ASPIxDOS.SYS (the main ASPI driver/interpreter), ASPICD.SYS (for your SCSI CD-ROM) and ASPIDISK.SYS (for your removable DOS formatted media). The 'x' in the ASPIxDOS. Do you have any plans to add support for native drivers?

Frequently Asked Questions about DTL
Not any time soon. The primary reason for doing this would be performance. We have tried to encapsulate all of the ODBC calls in three classes called DBStmt, DBConnection and DBEnvironment so we could bind to a native driver should we so desire. In practice, this is not a priority for us since ODBC gives us good database portability and my belief is that, used properly, ODBC is just as fast (or faster!) than native drivers. The real key is knowing how to use the ODBC API effeciently by e.g. See similar questions...

Will enough drivers switch to make a difference?

Bridge Tolls Advocacy Project
We estimate that tolls will eliminate between 6% and 7% of current trips on the free bridges, or 4-5% of trips on all the East River crossings (including the MTA facilities). This will speed traffic by more than 30% on the bridges and by several percent through large areas of Brooklyn and Queens that feed them, shaving 2-3 minutes from a typical 45-minute trip across a free bridge -- a 5% saving. Local trips now impeded by bridge traffic will move faster as well. See similar questions...

What is the difference between using native plants in my garden and restoring an ecosystem?

Great Lakes Environment: Greenacres-FAQs
Restoration work involves working with the seed bank in the soil of natural areas or replenishing that seed bank with native plants in order to reestablish the original functioning ecosystem - the web of life. Through restoration work degraded areas will return to the self sustaining areas that they were. Garden situations are different. The soil in residential areas is often imported from else where, or so disturbed that it no longer contains the seed memory which it originally held. See similar questions...

Can I tell the difference between fire ants and native ants? How large are fire ants?

Texas Imported Fire Ant Research and Management Project
Some uncertainty comes from the fact that red imported fire ants vary in size (1/16 to almost 1/4 inch long), with the largest workers 2 or 3 times larger than the smallest. Native fire ants are less common in imported fire ant infested areas. Solenopsis geminata is the most common native fire ant species encountered. To the unaided eye, they are almost identical to red imported fire ants. However, S. geminata will have a few larger workers with large, square-shaped heads. See similar questions...
