While we do not require you to drink 40 ounces of water before your session, it is beneficial to keep yourself well hydrated for pregnancy in general. A reasonably full bladder is beneficial with ultrasound as the beam travels better through fluids than tissue and thus enhances the images we see of your baby in many cases. We would recommend having the examination performed between the 27th and 34th week of the pregnancy. However, excellent images of your baby can be obtained anytime after about 24 weeks of pregnancy, even after 34 weeks.
