It's best to allow a day or so before using your contact lenses following rhinoplasty. It's not uncommon for patients to tell us that giving their eyes a temporary rest from the contact lenses feels good for the first two to three days following rhinoplasty. Compliance with requirements to wear safety glasses used to be a big problem in industry. However, safety glasses have become much more lightweight and stylish, to the point where workers actually want to wear their safety glasses. If you offer a selection of stylish safety glasses, that are appropriate for your work environment, you will find that compliance is no longer a big problem. No, OSHA does not approve safety glasses, or any other personal protective equipment for that matter.

You can buy prescription sunglasses or glasses with photochromic lenses (which change from clear to dark) from your eyecare practitioner. Clip-ons are a less expensive option, and can be bought at the same time as your regular eyeglasses to perfectly match the frames. Magnetic attachments may also be available. Many swimmers do wear contact lenses under goggles while they swim and enjoy good eyesight, no hassles of handling/storing contacts before and after they swim, and not having to deal with eyeglasses on deck. Pool water can ruin contacts so goggles are a necessity. If the goggles fall off or leak, you may still ruin the lenses. One-day disposable lenses will make the risk of ruining a lens more affordable.

Many people achieve 20/20 vision, or better, after undergoing LASIK eye surgery. Although patients experience an improvement in their vision, some may still need to wear corrective lenses for certain tasks, though the necessary power of correction will be much smaller than before. The result of the LASIK procedure is also influenced by the amount of correction needed.

If you wear glasses, we strongly recommend using some sort of glass strap. We sell a number of types in our retail store (starting at $1.25), you can bring one from home, or even use a shoe lace (not very pretty, but inexpensive and effective). Those with contacts should use precautions similar to if you were going to a pool. If you have trouble with losing contacts in a pool, then you should probably consider going with glasses and a strap instead.

You have three options: (1) wear bifocal contacts in both eyes; (2) wear one contact for distance vision, and one for near vision, this option is called monovision; or (3) wear your distance correction in the contacts, and wear reading glasses when needed.

It's possible you will, but it is not likely, especially if you undergo custom LASIK vision correction. An overwhelming majority - 98 percent - of people who undergo custom LASIK emerge with 20/20 vision or better. However, the overcorrection or undercorrection of your refractive error is always a possibility. This may cause you to wear glasses or contacts, or to return for a touch-up LASIK procedure.

The issue of the appropriateness or safety of any article of clothing or accessories is left entirely up to the referee. Some referees are strict about potentially dangerous items (such as hard or sharp glasses frames) while other will only enforce the minimum. The referee's ruling is final and should not be challenged.
