You can pay the fine in cash, by cheque or by Electronic Point Of Sale Card during normal office hours at the administrative offices of any Local Council in Malta or Gozo, except in the following localities : Floriana, Marsa, Xghajra, Birzebbugia, and Mtarfa. You can also pay the fine by filling in the lower part of the ticket whereby you authorize the Local Council to debit your Visa, Mastercard or Cashlink card.

Most citations can be paid prior to the court date, indicated near the bottom of the citation, without having to appear in court. If you fail to pay your fine or appear in court a warrant will be issued for your arrest, additional contempt of court fees will be asessed and your driver's license will be suspended. For information concerning mandatory court appearances, the amount of the fine you can dial 770-229-6450 extension 519 during normal business hours.

There are payment drop boxes located at three places: just inside the south entrance to City Hall; on 4th Street just a few feet east of Washington St.; and at the Records Division window within the police department for after hours drop-off. You may also pay directly to the Records Division personnel at the Police Department during M-F, 8-5.

Failure to pay your fine in full could result in a conviction being entered against you. Upon conviction you will be required to pay the set fine including court costs and the applicable victim fine surcharge by the due date. Failure to pay the fine imposed upon conviction by the due date will result in one or more of the following:

Contact the Court to schedule a probation modification. The Court will not be upset with you and will try to find a solution, including community service work in order to work off the fine at $10.00 per hour if you wish.

The judge can set up a time payment program for you, based on your income. A fee of $20 is required for this service.

We expect people to not break the law. If they do there are consequences. An inability to pay a fine has never been an excuse for breaking the law.
