If you are in the military and stationed outside the state of Illinois, you, your spouse and children living with you may have the expiration of your driver's licenses deferred for up to 45 days after your discharge or reassignment to a military base in Illinois. A Military Deferral Certificate, designed to be carried with the expired license, can be issued at no charge and mailed to you at your out of state address.

If you have met your reinstatement requirements and are otherwise eligible, you can get your driver license back 90 days from the starting date of your suspension. If you have a valid license from one state, you may use it in other states that you visit. But, if you make a permanent move to another state, you'll have to take a trip to the local department of motor vehicles to apply for a new license. Usually, you must do this within 30 days after moving to the new state. Most states will issue your new license without requiring tests, though some may ask you to take a vision test and a written exam covering basic driving rules.

Forty-eight states belong either to an agreement called the "Driver's License Compact" or the "Non-Resident Violator Compact." On an annual basis, each school district shall provide training in at least eight hours of duration to each school bus driver employed by the school district or under contract with the school district. Such training shall provide special instruction in school bus driving.
