Do CD-Rs last? And can I play them on my home stereo?

EMC FAQs
We've read that they last from six months to eighty years, but the shorter duration involved storage in the sun and sandpaper - not a pretty idea. We've had no trouble so far - we've had one return which was quickly remedied (and that may have been a blank disc that crept in) and another one with a glitch that we sorted out. These CD-Rs play well on all but the oldest CD player - our home player is from the mid-1990s and they play fine.

Can I play the output from my computer MP3 player through my home stereo?

Xorys' MP3 FAQ
Yeah, I have both the computers I regularly use connected to stereo systems by cables - I just bought cables from Radio Shack, with a stereo 1/8" plug on one end and two RCA jacks on the other, and I plug the cable into the "line-out" of my audio card and the "aux-in" of my equalizer / mixer. It works fine. See similar questions...

The disc (or some tracks) does not play on my home stereo CD player. What can I do?

www.copycontrolhelp.com
No. You can play the audio content using the Open MG Bundled player included on your disc; the player should automatically start once the disc is inserted in the PC. If you want to play the music on a PC without the disc, or if you want to export the tracks to a portable device, you must first install the Music Player software which is in the bin/win32 folder of your OMG disc. Is there any way of transferring MP3s to MD without using OpenMG Jukebox?

Minidisc Frequently Asked Questions
Dino Inglese, a Minidisc T-Station message board member offers this tip for using Simple Burner to circumvent OpenMG Jukebox (see his humorous original posting). CAVEAT: You will need Nero, and Nero's Imagedrive feature, or something similar that can create a virtual CD disc image and allow you to mount it to your desktop. Open Nero, select Audio CD from the presets and drag all the MP3's you want into it. Nero is far less picky about formats and sample rates. I found this method foolproof. See similar questions...

How can I make 6 channel Windows Media audio play properly on stereo speakers?

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
WMVHD files, typically created for playback on the XBOX360, can contain a 5.1 audio stream. If you play such a file on a computer that only has two speakers then you will only hear the sound from two of the six channels. This causes for example the voices (center channel) to be almost unhearable. The solution is to downmix the 5.1 channels into 2 channels. There are two ways to do this. You can either use AC3Filter or ffdshow. In ffdshow audio decoder configuration, go to the 'Codecs' page. See similar questions...

How do I play MP3s in Fedora?

The Unofficial Fedora FAQ
Before I talk about this, you should know: In the United States and some other countries, you may have to pay patent royalties to use MP3 players or encoders. However, for home users, there is no legal problem with MP3 players. (Thanks to Doug McClean for clearing that up for me!) With that said, the plugins for these things are usually in the rpm.livna.org repository. You install a different package depending on which Fedora MP3 player you want to use. Can I play my DVDs and MP3s under GNU/Linux?

Linux FAQ - common questions about GNU/Linux | getgnulinux.o...
Quite a few Linux distributions do not include MP3 playback software due to the patent situation of the MP3 format. These patent issues do not affect the user directly, so most distributions make it fairly easy to install MP3 support over the Internet after the installation, making it possible to legally play MP3 files, for non-commercial use. DVDs, on the other hand, are a more difficult situation. Most, if not all, DVDs are encrypted using a system called "CSS". See similar questions...

It is suggested that you create a folder on your media card called Music and put them in there. You can create subfolders as needed since the software allows you to navigate folders.
