No. You must first copy the file to your hard disk before opening it. The floppy disk is not a work space, only a storage area. If you work from the floppy, you will be taking a certain risk. If you cannot open the file once you have transferred it to your hard disk, this means that the file is incomplete (probably because there was not enough space on the floppy). Modern machines can’t read the 400k and 800k floppy disks used by the Mac Plus. This a hardware problem, not solvable in software - they lack the variable speed motor of the old drives. Windows will refuse to format a disk that some program (as 2xExplorer) have a lock on. A certain recipe for disaster therefore would be to be browsing the root "A:\", and then hit <Bksp> to access "My Computer" folder where the floppy disk icon resides (bearing the Format context menu command), since 2xExplorer current directory would still be on the floppy (MyComputer is not a filesystem folder). The good news about Tajima is that it is a DOS based format.
