Feeling jealous of people who never vomit?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
Most phobics suffer terrible panic attacks when they have nausea or imagine that they do. These panic attacks are much worse for them than vomiting is for an ordinary person. Yet the act remains unthinkable. The phobia interferes with educations, careers, marriages, and family relationships. Many phobics take time away from work or school unnecessarily because they fear either vomiting themselves or being exposed to people who can pass germs that will cause them to vomit.

When I get ill and vomit, do I vomit acid and/or bile like other people?

The Center for Surgical Treatment of Obesity at St. Mary Med...
No. In this operation the stomach and the area where the bile empties to the bowel is bypassed. You will probably have the dry heaves. If you vomit bile or acid, it is a bad sign and you should contact the surgeon or your doctor immediately. See similar questions...

How can we help people who vomit after taking the cleansing shakes?

Self Healing Cleansing - Detox Fasting - Holistic Health Eva...
These people should try taking just a small amount. Wait for 5 minutes and take some more. They also may find that eating an apple or something else will help calm their sensitive stomach. After a few days, they probably will not have this problem anymore. Usually the only people who have this problem are those who are environmentally ill and this is what they need to do. If necessary, they can just take ½ the shake. See similar questions...

Why don't emetophobics vomit very often?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
The answer is not clear. Most emetophobics have great skill at fighting nausea. They will tell you that they felt very ill but lay down until the nausea passed. Some use prescription anti-nausea drugs like Tigan or Compazine. Others use tricks like ice cubes. Some claim that their years of fear have left them unable to vomit. Many try to bolster their immune systems through vitamins and herbal remedies. See similar questions...

Is there any cure for vomit phobia?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
There isn't a ready, out-of-the-box cure for emetophobia or any other phobia. Some people suggest desensitizing phobics to vomit. Densensitization supposedly culminates with the phobic inducing vomiting. But that isn't the best option. This is because many phobics are already around vomiters (usually their children; additionally, phobic health care workers are exposed to their patients, and phobic teachers are exposed to their students). How is your phobia now? Are you cured? Do you ever vomit?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
I find that my phobia has varied in intensity over the years. There was a time when I was about 16 that I thought I was cured; I hardly ever worried about vomiting and preventing it then. When I was 18, it came back suddenly and with a vengeance. It did not prevent me from doing things I wanted to do that fall starting college, however. My fear gradually eased to the point where I call myself close to being cured. See similar questions...

Will I vomit after surgery?

Paul Preston, MD
Sometimes patients are nauseated and may vomit after surgery. This is most common with abdominal procedures, gynecologic surgery, and eye surgery. It is more common in women than men, and more common in people who are prone to motion sickness. We take numerous measures to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery, including using anesthetics that have an anti-nausea effect and administering anti-nausea medications before, during, and after surgery. So what happens to emetophobics when they actually vomit?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
The fact most surprising to non-phobics is that the great majority of emetophobics rarely, if ever, vomit. An emetophobic is a person who has been in car collisions more often than they have vomited. Most phobics can count the number of times they have vomited on the fingers of one hand. Some emetophobics have survived pregnancy and childbirth, appendicitis, and gall bladder operations without as much as a single retch. See similar questions...

What do you mean "their years of fear have left them unable to vomit"?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
This is what some phobics have conjectured as to their great vomitory continence. The act of vomiting is controlled by the brain. Specifically, there is a vomiting center, located in the medulla oblongota of the brain. Vomiting is a more primitive function of the brain. Some phobics believe that as a result of years of fear and daily cogitation, the conscious part of their brain has overridden the vomiting center. See similar questions...

Couldn't it be that they just need to vomit more often? What if I arranged for that to happen?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
No! No! No! Nothing could be more destructive to the relationship between an emetophobic and their loved one than that. Some (not most) adult emetophobes say they developed emetophobia because their parents made them vomit at one time or another. There are even adult emetophobes who wound up worse than before when someone tried to "cure" them by infecting them or otherwise making them vomit. See similar questions...

No. Cats love to groom themselves and in doing so they swallow large amounts of hair. Vomiting hairballs is a sign that the hair is not moving from the stomach into the small intestine. You may vomit if you eat too fast or too much, drink fluids with meals, introduce a new food to your diet that you no longer tolerate or if you eat or drink something with sugar. Look at what you have thrown up. If it has hulls or pieces in it, this means you did not blend or strain your food well enough. Go back to light soups and juices for your next meal until your stomach settles. See similar questions...

I notice you keep saying "vomit." Don't you know that there are a lot of synonyms?

Emetophobia Clinic: Treatment, Cure, Medication & Hope.....
Yes, we know them. We use the clinical "vomit" here because it is the least judgmental and because being able to say the word can be empowering to an emetophobic. Many people have unpleasant associations with some of the popular euphemisms, although most emetophobics use those words themselves. (Our favorite is the airlines' euphemism for in-flight vomiting, "motion discomfort.") And "throwing up" sounds like something children do, much as they would have an "owie. See similar questions...
