Bloody stool is caused by a problem somewhere in your digestive tract. There could be many causes of bloody stool. The first step is to determine where the bleeding is occurring. This is done by observing the color of the blood. Bright red bloody stools are often an indicator that the bleeding is near the anus. Darker blood suggests that the problem is farther up the digestive tract.

A bloody show is a small amount of bloody mucous seen at anytime in the final month of pregnancy. It may be anything from just mucous(plug) to pink discharge to a bloody red discharge. Getting a stool sample should not be difficult. Only a small amount is required for testing. Simply scoop up an amount equal to 1/4 teaspoon and place it in a small jar or plastic bag.
