What is a MilliAmp Hour (MAH)?

F.A.Q form Payless-Batteries(UK)
MilliAmp Hour means how much current a battery will discharge over a period of one hour. Higher numbers here reflect a long battery runtime and or higher storage capacity. Higher MAH ratings do not necessarily reflect on speed but more on runtime. For example a 2000 mAh pack will sustain a 2000 milli amp (2 amp) draw for one hour before dropping to a voltage level that is considered discharged. A 1700 will sustain a 1700 mAh (1.7 amp) draw for one hour.

What does mAh (milliamp hours) mean?

Park Flyer vs Slow Flyer Airplanes - FAQ
The milliamp hour is the standard unit of storage capacity for a cell. It is similar to "gallons of fuel" for a combustion engine. The milliamp hour rating of a cell tells how many constant milliamps of current can be supplied by the pack for one hour. This rating can be used to find the duration a battery pack can provide, given a certain draw. Because cells are wired in series, the milliamp hour rating of a pack is the same as the milliamp hour rating of a single cell. See similar questions...

Do you bill by the hour?

USA Food Safety
Absolutely not. With USAFSP, the price is set on the value of the project. While we will have a reasonable idea of how long the entire project will take, it is in both our interests for us to stay until your team is properly educated and trained as per our agreement. With USAFSP, there will be no clock watching on your part, and no concern about us stretching the project out to pad the bill. You know the total cost before the project begins. What does mAh stand for?

FAQ | Endurance Rechargeable Batteries - High Capacity AA Re...
mAh stands for milli Ampere hour or milli Amp hour. It is a measure of a battery's energy storage capacity. If you think of a battery as a small fuel storage tank, which in a sense it is, mAh a measure of how much "fuel" the battery holds. (This is roughly comparable to using gallons to measure how much fuel a gas tank can hold. The more gallons of capacity, the more fuel the tank can hold.) With a battery the higher the mAh rating the more electrical energy it can store. See similar questions...

What does the mAh rating of my batteries mean?

NiMH Rechargeable Battery Information and FAQ's answered
The mAh rating refers to the storage capacity available for a particular battery. A battery with a capacity rating of 2400 mAh could deliver a current of 2400mA for one hour. Higher mAh ratings for the same battery type will generally mean longer run times. This does not apply when comparing different types of batteries. This means that you may not be able to predict how long your electronic device will run just by looking at the capacity rating. See similar questions...

Can I substitute a higher mAh battery for a lower one?

FAQ | Endurance Rechargeable Batteries - High Capacity AA Re...
Yes, for most high drain electronic applications NiMH batteries are ideal substitutes and you needn't worry about the apparent voltage differences. Even though alkaline batteries are rated at a nominal 1.5 volts, they only deliver 1.5 volts when they are fully charged. As they begin to discharge the voltage of alkaline batteries continuously drops. In fact, over the course of their discharge, alkaline batteries actually average about 1.2 volts. That's very close to the 1. See similar questions...
