I don't have a speaker cable. Can I use an instrument cable to connect my amp to my speakers?

SWR® - Amplify Your Future™
No. Using instrument cables to connect your speakers can result in intermittent power loss, amp oscillation and speaker damage, as well as rendering the cables useless for any purpose. We recommend using 18-gauge or heavier speaker cables.

Q10) Can I use an instrument cable (shielded) to connect my amp to my speakers?

Ampeg : Frequently Asked Questions

Are ribbon speakers sensitive to speaker cable types?

Pinsh
Yes, by which we mean that your choice of speaker cable will influence to some degree the amount of detail and transparency you achieve. All speaker cables are filters, to a greater of lesser extent. Some people even opine that cables are a sort of tone control. It’s an interesting thought. cables do of course have an influence on our bass too. We don’t recommend any specific cable. We suggest that in collaboration with a co-operative retailer, you experiment. See similar questions...

Can I connect your subwoofers to my computer or computer speakers?

HSU FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
It is relatively easy to connect a HSU subwoofer to certain computer sound cards. These sound cards have a dedicated subwoofer output. Without a subwoofer output on the card, it is still possible to hook up a VTF or STF-3 subwoofer, since these subwoofers have stereo inputs. Use a Radio Shack splitter/adapter (one 1/8-inch stereo male to two 1/8-inch stereo female). Take the stereo 1/8-inch output from the computer sound card. See similar questions...

Can I use a speaker cable as a guitar cable?

AGA - The General FAQ
Nope. You probably won't try this more than once. The cable between your guitar and amp (or effects) has to be shielded to prevent picking up noise (electromagnetic radiation from lights, motors, radio, etc). If you use unshielded cable (such as 99.9999% of all speaker cable) this noise will get amplified and drown out your guitar signal in a horrible flood of sonic mayhem. See similar questions...

Can I use a guitar cable as a speaker cable?

AGA - The General FAQ
Not a good idea. It might work for a while, but it's risky. Especially if you are pushing high power through a cable with a small center conductor, you risk either an open circuit when the conductor dies, or more likely melted insulation as the inner conductor gets hot, resulting in a short circuit. Neither is very good for your amp. Also, the additional capacitance in the cable will adversely affect the impedance your amp sees. See similar questions...

Do you have to use a special amp with ECLIPSE speakers?

You can use amplifiers made by other makers, but the transitional characteristics of ECLIPSE system components, including the amplifier, are all optimised to faithfully reproduce the characteristics of the source sound. What gauge speaker wire should I use in my system?

Amplifier Frequently Asked Questions
For the best speaker damping and least amount of power loss you will want to use the heaviest gauge that is practical. The length of the speaker wire should be considered when considering wire gauge. The shorter the run, the smaller gauge you can use with minimum power and damping factor loss. The longer the run, the heavier gauge you will need to minimize power and damping factor loss. You will also want to consider the size of power amplifier you are using. See similar questions...

I don't have any spray equipment. Do I *have* to use nitrocellulose lacquer on my instrument?

Musical Instrument Makers Forum miniFAQ: Acoustic Guitar Mak...
No, you do not. It was Bob Taylor who said, "A long time ago, some guy figured out that if you keep spraying and sanding a guitar, you can make it really shiny. We need to exhume that guy and shoot him!" While nitrocellulose lacquer has become "traditional" and a mirror-like lacquer finish is the standard, there are many other finish options including waterbased/waterborne lacquers, French polish/shellac, varnish, and various oil-based finishes like Tru Oil. Is it OK to use a hifi speaker with my guitar amp?

AX84 - The General FAQ
There is a big difference between guitar amp use and PA or HiFi use of speakers, and in some areas the advice and issues are almost exactly opposite-- but both correct in their given areas. In HiFi and PA use you must never let the amps clip. Once you do the amp will begin to deliver significant amounts of energy in relatively high frequencies. A PA of a HiFi rig will have high frequency drivers, whose power handling capabilities are by necessity vastly lower than those of the bass drivers. See similar questions...

What speakers do you recommend for use with your mini-amp circuits?

runoffgroove.com FAQ
While the Ruby, Little Gem, and Little Gem MkII practice amps can be used with any speakers, best results are achieved with full-size speakers intended for use with guitar amps. The amps will work well with an total impedance of 4, 8, or 16 ohms. We've tried hi-fi speakers, clock-radio speakers, and auto speakers - they just can't cut it. For me, using anything other than a speaker designed for the frequencies of an electric guitar produced sounds more like a toy than an actual amp. See similar questions...

How do you couple speakers to speaker stands?

Audio Speaker FAQ - WikiFAQ - Answers to Frequently Asked Qu...
Ideally, your speakers should sit flat on the speaker stand or floor. They shouldn't see-saw back and forth if nudged. One good way to accomplish this is to use a small dab of putty under each corner of the speaker. There are a few common putties used for this, but all share the properties of being very elastic and staying flexible indefinitely. These putties are inexpensive, removable, and reusable. What should I use for a center speaker?

FAQ
I have no Home Theater setup. The ORION can certainly be used for a Home Theater, especially when the THOR subwoofer is added. My primary interest is music reproduction and the arrival of discrete multi-channel audio in the form of SACD and DVD-A was driving me to investigate the center channel issue. I have reported on my findings and have no pressing need for either center or surround speakers. See similar questions...
