Computer Based Testing: You can go to one of our testing center partners and take the exam on a computer there. You cannot take the CBT on your home computer

This tape was established and previously edited for over 15 years, from Version 1 through Version 321 by Arnold Casinghino who worked at Connecticut Bank and Trust Company (CBT). The CBT Tape is now being edited by Sam Golob. Our plan is to keep the initials "CBT" even though this tape is no longer supported at the Connecticut Bank and Trust Company, because those initials reflect how the tape should be properly and accurately referred to.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy is based on the idea that thoughts, behavior, and mood all reciprocally influence each other. As such, a change in thinking or behavior will also lead to a change in mood. This is true for someone who is feeling emotionally healthy as well as for those who are struggling emotionally. The cognitive aspect of CBT focuses on challenging cognitive distortions in order to replace them with less distorted and more adaptive thinking.

CBT is the ONLY form of therapy that is widely proven to be effective for panic disorder, agoraphobia and other forms of anxiety disorder. There are dozens of studies that prove the dramatic effectiveness of CBT. There is an absence of studies showing the effectiveness of other forms of therapy.

CBT is not at all like traditional psychotherapy. In traditional psychotherapy, the focus is often on talking about one's past. Talking about the past can be very helpful in dealing with many life issues, but it has very limited value in helping people to overcome panic disorder. CBT focuses on overcoming panic in the present, as opposed to searching the past for contributing factors. In CBT, you learn skills that you practice in the therapist's office and on your own.

It's not necessary to believe in this approach for it to work. As you see the results for yourself, you begin to believe in it!
