Once you are discharged we recommend our patients rest the day of the embryo transfer procedure. Normal activities can be resumed the day afterwards. We do not recommend any high impact activities or over-exertion until the pregnancy test. We advise patients to avoid any hot-tubs/Jacuzzis or hot baths during this time also. Sexual intercourse can resume at any time depending on the female patients level of comfort after the egg retrieval.

Patients are asked to avoid strenuous activity that would strain the pelvic area, such as climbing stairs and lifting objects heavier than 15 pounds. Any formal exercise program such as weight lifting aerobics, jogging, etc. should be discussed with the physician. Swimming and highly strenuous activity, such as weight-lifting or high impact aerobics, will need to be limited for about a week. Otherwise, there are no restrictions following surgical treatment. This is the process in which fertilized eggs are placed inside your uterus using a flexible catheter (Wallace). This procedure is painless. Insertion of the catheter is done slowly. Sometimes it may be necessary to use a firmer catheter (Cook K Jet) and ultrasound guidance to insert the catheter. Removal of the catheter is also done slowly.
