What is the difference between a scholarship and a bursary?

A Scholarship is a monetary merit-based award that recognizes and rewards students primarily for the academic excellence. Bursaries are non-repayable grants given to students on the basis of financial need. Refer to the School of Graduate Studies and Research website for information on merit-based (scholarship) funding.

What is the difference between a scholarship, an Assisted Place and a bursary?

A scholarship is a fixed fee reduction of £1,000 per annum offered following exceptional performance in the entrance exam (or audition/interview for Ragg or Music scholarships). The value of the scholarship can be increased through means-testing. Assisted Place is a fee reduction available to parents who cannot afford the full fees. Yes. According to Canadian tax regulations, all scholarships and bursaries are considered taxable income. Therefore, we are required by law to issue you a T4A for the amount of the scholarship or bursaries you received in a calendar year. These T4As are mailed to your address listed on QCARD in February following the end of the calendar year.
