Lycra (Spandex) is softer and has greater stretch capability allowing for more flexibility. Its fabric has a rubberized elastic material. This is especially important for Synchro Swimmers. We are often asked this question from clients in the home furnishing industry as they often require to sublimate onto furniture with fabric that is part polyester and cotton. Generally speaking, the higher the percentage of polyester in the fabric the better the sublimation results. Polyester is a man-made fabric which results in a garment which is extremely light and comfortable to wear, with excellent quick drying and chlorine resistant properties. Polycotton is a more natural fabric and feels more like the t-shirts that you put on your children. This is ideal for infant or sensitive skins, but takes a little longer to dry than polyester. Polyester films, like USI OptiClear, are clearer and a higher quality than lower grade films, which tend to be foggy. Premium films also endure extreme environments and severe stress conditions more favorably. Films with higher polyester content are more rigid and feel thicker than films with more adhesive content. Before stenciling the fabric, wash and dry it according to label instructions. This will remove the sizing (chemical coating) in new fabric. If the sizing is not removed, your stencil paint will not bond well with the material. When stenciling on fabric, it is much easier if you can keep the fabric from moving around. Do this by using a light coat of spray adhesive on a piece of cardboard that is about 2" larger than the piece of fabric you want to stencil. See similar questions...
