How smooth of a surface finish can you provide?
Rapid Prototyping: FAQsAlmost all rapid prototyping materials can have surface finish and cosmetic improvements made to them. Both SLS and SLA can be sanded, filled and painted to look like injection-molded plastic. Surface texturing can even be applied if time and budget allows. Most parts, however, do not require high level finishing, and are simply sanded and bead blasted. This creates and nice surface finish that is excellent for engineering purposes.
How do I inspect castings for surface finish?
Eastern Alloys, Inc.Visual inspection of parts is particularly important if they are to be plated, since the bright surfaces produced by the buffing and plating operations make extremely small defects visible. First the inspector must have some means of polishing the surface, this is best done with a polishing buff but steel wool can also be used (use a back and forth motion, not a circular one). The next thing you require is really good light level of 2700 lux minimum. See similar questions...

What is enhanced surface tubing?
Welcome to Rome Industries, Inc.Enhanced surface tubing is a twisted tube as opposed to standard round tube. It has two major advantages over standard round tube as follows: times the surface area over a given length versus standard round tube (more surface area equals more heat transfer and a more compact design). More heat transfer equals more efficiency which equals lower operating costs for the pool owner. See similar questions...

What surface finish is required prior to cladding?
FaqsSurfaces must be clean (free of oil, paint or other contaminants that prohibit wettability). A surface finish of 250 R(a) is the generally accepted worst surface finish for cladding. Conforma Clad's standard procedure is to grit blast components prior to application of the cladding. See similar questions...

What about the part surface finish after finishing ?
Arptech Frequently Asked Questions about Rapid prototyping s...Normally all prototyping processes require post processing operation to give a smooth finish. SLA process still gives much better finish than 3D printing and SLS process. Normally parts are finished with standard finish; means outer or visible faces are lightly sanded and internal features are left machine finish. But surface finish can be further improved by fine sanding, polishing or painting which is only done upon special request from customer and increases the prototype cost. See similar questions...
What sort of surface finish should I have on my cylinderhead?
Engine Rebuilds, Ford Engine Rebuild, Car Engine Rebuild, Ge...There are different surface finishes for cast iron and aluminium alloy cylinderheads. The important point is that the reconditioner knows and understands the difference, since errors here can seriously compromise the cylinderhead gasket life. Basically, cast iron requires a rough file like finish, where as an aluminium cylinderhead needs a smooth mirror finish. See similar questions...
How do you finish the surface of the timbers?
The Custom Woodworking Co.Our timber frames are available in four different textured finishes: planed/sanded, rough sawn and hand hewn. As a final surface finish, we typically apply one coat of Danish oil when a natural finish is desired. The oil finish acts as a protective coat against scuff marks that may be inflicted during handling, assembly and raising. These can be easily scraped off and re-touched. Other stains, such as whitewash, pickled pine and darker stains can be used to suit individual tastes. See similar questions...
How can I measure surface finish (roughness)?
Lightway Systems: Customs Designed and Built Optical-Based I...Optically, surface roughness can be measured in both relative and absolute units of measurement, but only in its statistical form - Ra. Relative measurements produce results proportional to the variance of the surface finish of the actual process components. Translation from relative to absolute units is possible via calibration of the sensor's output against a "reference standard". See similar questions...

Can I bury the tubing?
DripWorks Frequently Asked QuestionsThe mainline tubing can generally be buried with no problems. However, it is possible for burrowing rodents like gophers or moles to chew right through the line. That aside, it is often desirable to bury the line to have it out of the way so it won't be seen or tripped over. Emitter tubing can always be covered with mulch, which is, in fact, desirable to protect it from the sun and extend its lifespan. See similar questions...

Q: What is the difference between a matte finish and an electropolished finish on vacuum tubing?
MDC Vacuum Products. - Products FAQ'S- Flanges and FittingsA: A matte finish is a bead blast finish on tubing exterior only. The surface has a uniform dull appearance. Most fittings are constructed with a matte finish. An electropolished finish removes a small portion of the surface of the vacuum tubing, usually both inside and out, which results in a surface that traps less water vapor than an unpolished surface. In most high vacuum and many ultrahigh vacuum applications, a matte finish is acceptable. See similar questions...
