Answer: Yes! The e-RAM works with carbureted engines. You just have to make sure you follow the following guidelines: An e-RAM-FILTER should be placed on the end of the sealed intake tube that feeds the carb with pressurized air.

Answer: Yes! The e-RAM works on all internal combustion engines (Gasoline, Natural Gas, Diesel, etc.). Since the e-RAM is just providing additional air-density to the intake, your engine management system will automatically adjust to provide the appropriate amount of fuel and provide the additional HP gain expected from your e-RAM installation.

Answer: Yes! The e-RAM works on all internal combustion engines (car, motorcycle, ATV, Boat, etc.). You just have to make sure that there will be enough room to mount the e-RAM in the compact area available on a motorcycle. The e-RAM will work with your carbureted engine (see next answer for considerations for carburetors). However, 2-stroke engines with simple membrane style carburetors will not respond to the e-RAM pressure. Your carburetor must have a "float-bowl" for correct fuel delivery.

We do not have a fuel injection conversion kit for any of our engines. Components that would need to be changed include the ECM (computer), wiring harness, intake manifold, fuel delivery system (rail, lines, pump), ignition system, etc.

First, a suitable intake manifold must be either modified or retrofitted. Some older carbureted engines have a later, factory EFI version which may have an intake manifold that can be bolted onto the early engine. Chev TPI systems are in this category. This type of conversion will save a tremendous amount of work and money as they are usually available with the throttle body, injectors and fuel rails.

NX specializes in blower and turbo nitrous applications. Any NX plate style system combined with the NXd5000 controller is the ultimate set-up. The PN NXd5000 is a boost referenced progressive controller that senses boost and automatically ramps the nitrous charge out as the boost comes up. This controller can handle two stages of nitrous and can ramp in either a boost or time reference. This allows for a straight torque “curve” with no soft spots.

The Tunnel Port Ram Air V engine had the potential for unseating the top dog Chevy. Unfortunately, very few of these engines ever reached the public. It was only briefly offered as a crate engine through Pontiac dealers in the early 70's. The Ram Air V could have put Pontiac into the big time at the track.

Answer: The e-Ram is a distant cousin of the full blown turbo or supercharging system which employs a centrifugal impeller that must run all the time. They have to produce matched engine airflow, with high-pressure air compression (4 to 15 PSI is normal). This requires a tremendous amount of HP to drive the device. For example the airflow needed for a 2.5-liter engine at 6000 RPM is 240 CFM. At only 6 PSI, you would need 10 to 15 HP just to create this type of supercharging.

Answer: No. Since the e-RAM is over 3.8 inches inside diameter, even with the motor in the center, and its axial blade design, the e-RAM flows the equivalent to a 3.1 inch diameter free-flow intake tube. Also at part-throttle conditions, this not a factor because the flow rates under part throttle condition are much lower as well. We have dyno'ed the e-RAM when mounted but NOT ENERGIZED at full throttle and measured no losses (see dyno results page for this dyno example).

The glow plug igniter heats up the glow plug and when the crankshaft is rotated by the pullstarter or starter box, the fuel gets compressed against the heated glow plug by the piston, which is moving up in the engine sleeve. When the piston is at the top of its stroke, the glow plug has heated the fuel to the point where the fuel explodes, sending the piston to the bottom of its stroke to allow more fuel in, which the piston forces up against the glow plug, and the cycle starts over again.

The Difference between ECC and Non-ECC RAM is the pysical layout of the chip and the ECC logic chip. the Physical layout of the chip is what makes non-ECC RAM not fit in ECC slots. Some ECC will fit in Non-ECC slots, and vice versa. Please let me know what modules you've had success with and I'll update the FAQ.

It's true! However, we caution you not to try to run any programs under this configuration. In fact, it's best if you don't turn the machine on at all.

HPI will only warranty engines that have factory defects. Engines that are damaged from abuse, neglect or normal use will not be repaired. The Linux/m68k port requires about the same amount of RAM as the other Linux ports: about 4 megs at the minimum. Even if Linux supports less, the recent versions of the Penguin booter do not. 4 MB is no longer enough to load a 2.2 kernel and a ramdisk. Even 5 MB is stretching it. System 7.0.1 uses less memory than the other Mac systems; if you have a low memory machine, you might try running it. If you intend to run Debian 3.0, you are looking at a more usable minimum of 32 MB.
