In obtaining an associate degree, students are required to take general education classes, and are here full-time. Their hands-on technical classes are more in-depth and they spend more time in the shop or lab. As Ranken's associate degree programs are accredited, your degree will transfer to most other colleges in the area. With a certificate, students take technical, hands-on classes only, no general education courses are required.

associate degree requires 60 or more college credit hours and generally takes two or more years to complete. Certificates require 15 to 50 college credit hours and could be classified as short-term training to obtain a specific marketable job skill.

Two types of certificates are awarded by Schoolcraft College: pre-associate certificate and post-associate certificate. A pre-associate certificate is awarded upon satisfactory completion of a program of study and does not require completing general education requirements. The courses for many pre-associate certificates are included in the companion associate degree program.

You are able to obtain an Associate's degree at any Community College. Universities and State Universities to do not offer Associate's degrees. To obtain the Associate Degree, a student must complete 60 units of college work. The 60 units must include General Education, Major and Elective courses.

Although exceptions may be made, the Certificate Degree Program is only for students who have completed at least 64 college credits. Students in the Certificate program must complete 30 credits of paralegal studies. See Program Requirements page. Those courses can be completed in as few as two semesters but must be completed within three years. The Associates Degree Program is for students who have not completed at least 64 college credits.

A Certificate Program is designed for the person who wants concentrated instruction in a specific area of dental laboratory. It differs from the Associates Degree which has a broader background.

When you graduate from our Professional Photography Program you will earn a Diploma. Degree programs require the completion of specific academic and a number of elective classes. These are not required at NESOP, since our exclusive focus is on professional photography.

Our 64-credit AAS degree includes 18 credits of program requirements, 24 credits of program electives and 22 credits of general education (Gen Ed) classes. Biology or Chemistry, and Math for Horticulture are considered Gen Ed classes; both are required for the degree. You may use transfer credit for the biology or chemistry classes (as long as the course is comparable and has a lab component-talk with an adviser for approval), but there is no substitution for the Math for Horticulture class.

The difference, curriculum-wise, between a degree and a combination of the level 1 and level 2 certificate is the state's general education requirements. In other words, if you take two 17-unit certificates and add general education requirements, you will have a degree.

associate degree is a two-year degree granted by a community college to students who complete a specified program of study, usually totaling 90 units. A bachelor’s degree (or baccalaureate) is a four-year degree granted upon completion of at least 124 semester units or 180 quarter units. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degrees are offered by the California State Universities, the University of California and many private four-year colleges and universities.

All of the degree plans at Brookhaven College are designed to provide you with the skills you need to compete in today’s workforce. Your ability to find a job will depend on many things including your performance, the current job market and the specific skill set you have. Brookhaven College has a Career Development Center that will help you search for a job. They provide many services including resume writing, practice interviews, job research, job fairs, etc.

Each of the Certificate courses meet requirements for the Business Administration-Electronic Commerce Degree. Further, SCC currently offers 83% of the courses needed for the full Associate's Degree online.
