Asynchronous or store and forward consultation involves the exchange of clinical information and static images collected and stored in the telecommunication equipment. The dental practitioner collects all the required clinical information and digital intraoral and extraoral images and radiographs (or scanned, originally nondigital images) and forwards them for consultation and treatment planning via established networks and/or the Internet. E-mail is an example of asynchronous communication.

Synchronous learning is when all the participants are interacting at the same time (in Virtual Classrooms or chatting sessions for instance). Asynchronous learning is when the student accesses the material on his/her own, at any time (online learning materials) or communicates with peers or tutors who are not available online at the same (emails, discussion forums).

For asynchronous device, each data byte is framed by housekeeping bits. These bits provide the synchronization to the receiving facility each time when it receives data byte. Two wires ("signal" and "ground") are enough to transmit the data. A part of data can come anytime. Asynchronous mode appeared together with the telegraphy and is successfully used up to nowadays.

This is something that you can negotiate with your trading partner, but it is generally left up to the sender to specify (A receiver that implements the AS2 protocol must be prepared to do whatever the sender indicates here). The difference between the two is notable: A synchronous transaction is one in which the receipt that confirms the arrival of a document is sent over the same connection that was established to send the document.

Synchronous memory is tied to the speed of the front side bus while asynchronous memory is not. DDR and SDRAM are example of synchronous memory, and EDO and FPM are examples of asynchronous memory.

Synchronous communication is a form of communication whereby people (students and instructors in this case) interact with each other at the same time (sometimes called real time). This can be done via various methods of communication such as chatrooms, video conferencing and audio conferencing. Asynchronous communication is a form of communication that does not happen in real time.

Our program uses both synchronous and asynchronous communication methods in order to best interact with our students. Synchronous communication is not mandatory, but is recommended.

The table of contents (TOC) is automatically shown once there are four or more headings in the article. The are multiple ways to hide it. Edit the CSS files; locate the style for the table of contents and add display: none; to the definition. Users can also opt to have the table of contents hidden. This is a user preference, set in Special:Preferences.

A TOC is added automatically as soon as you have more than three headers. To add one with fewer than four headers, type __FORCETOC__ anywhere on the page or __TOC__ at the position where you want to have the TOC. To remove a table of contents from a page, add __NOTOC__ to anywhere on the page. The __ character before the commands is two _ characters together See Help:Section for more information.

To convert from asynchronous to synchronous data the control information must removed. To convert the other way, control information must be added. The redundant control information is the start and any stop bits. Stop bits can often be ignored because they are at the same level as an idle line. Other information, such as parity bits, are error detection information and may be ignored but this is system dependent.

While asynchronous training (the most common form of e-learning) caters to just-in-time needs, synchronous training provides the training needed where the participant needs it. Characteristics of synchronous mirror many of the traditional classroom training experiences, such as: In addition, one of the greatest benefits of synchronous training is that people in different geographical locations and personal situations can be involved at the same time – from whatever location they choose.

Good question. They don't call it AJAX for nothing! A synchronous request would block in page event processing and I don't see many use cases where a synchronous request is preferable.

It seems like I have two choices. I can either use a sophisticated word processing tool to help me manage this 40+ page monstrosity or I can edit this thing in raw HTML or XML. The con of the former is that I can't generate a TOC whose links don't break every time I regenerate the TOC. The con of the later is that I can't deal with a document this big in raw form. So I have gone through and manually created anchors for all the questions but there is no ToC.

This is the beauty of LaTeX; all tables of contents, lists of figures and lists of tables are automatically generated by the lines in the frontmatter (see my examples on the main page). The first time you LaTeX your code, a .aux file is generated which lists (among other things) the page numbers for all the sections and subsections. The second time you run LaTeX, these values are made into spiffy tables. I've done something (changed the linespacing, etc.
