Admission to the program usually presupposes applicants have been exposed to the field of psychology as undergraduates. If applicants are not psychology undergraduate majors, the Graduate Admissions Committee will evaluate their applications on an individual basis and will likely recommend remedial coursework designed to place the applicant on a more competitive level with other students prior to formal admission to the program.

The department will consider admitting you provisionally (conditionally) if you have received a C- or better in APSY 101 and APSY 210 and have a cumulative GPA at or above 2.50 in psychology courses taken at the University at Albany. If you are given provisional admittance to the major, you will have ONE semester to successfully complete APSY 211. To be admitted as a full major, you must obtain a C- or better in APSY 211 and maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA in psychology.

Yes. If you would like to be considered for more than one program of study, please indicate this on the application form where you are asked to state a major. You may apply to up to three programs of study. However, please keep in mind that admission to all programs of study is highly competitive. Out of respect for other applying students, please only apply for programs of study you are seriously interested in pursuing.

There is no advantage to applying as undeclared or in one major over another. Applicants seeking admittance into popular, or impacted, majors are admitted as premajors and must fulfill a certain list of requirements set by the department before moving into the major. Transfer applicants cannot apply for admission as an undeclared major. Students applying for readmission to SDSU cannot apply as a freshman.

Freshmen applicants do not need to have a declared major in order to apply. SDSU Career Services offers students many services and resources to help in selecting a major.

Students not admitted to the university may take up to 15 credit hours. Students admitted to the university, but not the college, may also take business courses. However, with both groups of students, prerequisites are enforced for all courses and there is no guarantee these business courses will remain part of the degree program. The college does discourage students who are planning to major in business from taking third- and fourth-year courses until they gain full admission to the college.

A student who has been fully admitted to the College and who wishes to change majors within the College must complete the Change of Major/Admission to Upper Division form. This form must be submitted to a CBA advisor.
