Paint cans that are completely dried out and have the lids removed will be collected with your normal refuse. For cans that don’t meet this requirement, please contact Scott County Hazardous Waste Management at 381-1300.

We do not want to duplicate services that are already available. Generally, tire and appliance retailers accept the old items as an extension of their service and dispose of them for a nominal fee. Your local Canadian Tire store may take back tires. We advise you to contact a location near you in advance. Also Wastech Transfer Station will take up to four tires per day (off rim).

Nationwide, more than three quarters of scrap tires generated go to an end use market. The largest part (41%) are used as fuel for cement kilns, paper mills, and power plants. Some of these are shredded and others used as whole tires. Tire Derived Fuel (TDF) has a higher energy content and produces less sulfur pollution than the coal it replaces.

Refuse/garbage is collected twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please follow the example of your neighbours and make sure the wheels are facing the correct way. The refuse collectors will not empty your bin if it is facing the wrong way. Your bin may be put out the night before it is due to be emptied, but it must be stored away in the garage once it has been emptied. Each property, which is rated as residential pays an apportionment of its rates towards the refuse and recycling services. The total rates for each property are based on the land value; therefore the refuse portion is different for each property.

Discarded tires quickly become breeding mosquitoes. Under the false guise of helping the marine habitat, tires are often wired together and dumped in the ocean. This method of disposal has several consequences: Tires release chemicals that are toxic to marine life for a long time until the tires have been completely overgrown with marine organisms. Organisms that eventually do settle on rubber tires are largely "weedy" organism like stinging hydroids, sponges, and fire coral.
