You need to SET UP the disc by selecting SET UP from the Picture This DVD main menu. There you can choose which subtitles or closed-captions you would like to appear. In most cases, you can also choose none. From this menu you can also select between regular 2-channel stereo (2.0) or 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound (5.1).

Some movie subtitles may appear in the black letterboxing below the movie image. If you use automated screen masking, the subtitles may then be obscured by the mask. The Kaleidescape System now offers the option of repositioning subtitles within the movie image.

Subtitles can only be placed on top of the video. Placing the subtitles below the original video is possible by enlarging the video frame. This is done by adding black bars to the top and bottom of the video. These black bars will be visible when the video is not in fullscreen. They are different from black bars that are only visible during fullscreen playback. Those are not part of the video frame and thus can not be used to put the subtitles onto.

If you want to copy, delete, italicise or otherwise format a group of subtitles (or even a complete subtitle file), choose Quick View from the Subtitle menu, select the subtitles you wish to change (using Ctrl + Left Click or Shift + Left Click) and then click the appropriate command.
